We have can provide a variety of service levels dependant on your requirements:

FULL CONSULTANCY

We are able to provide a fully comprehensive service advising our customers at inception through to completion. We will advise on efficiency, viability, offer you a complete design service, manufacture the system and arrange any installation you may require via our approved network.

STUCK & TRACK (product supply)

We can provide a very diverse variety of stud and track section sizes to suit most installations (see section size overview). For convenience we are happy to provide sections with or without a design contingency. We can also offer you installation via our approved network of installers.

PRIMAFRAME (frames)

We can supply our unique framing system panels (primaframe) either flat packed or assembled and ready for immediate installation. Alternatively, we can also offer you an installation service through approved network of installers.

Broadly speaking we offer both an indicative design service (free of charge) along with full design for the “stud and track” type project and also a highly recommended (essential in our opinion!) full design service for primaframe projects (stand-alone structures).

CALEDAN DESIGN SERVICES

The following information provides our customers with an overview of the CALEDAN Design Service.



Initially our customers opt for the “basic indicative design”, usually just for budget or tender purposes. We thought it useful to fully describe what to expect with the indicative design option and also what other possible options exist for you to progress your design and make full use of our service.

Generally CALEDAN can provide two distinct levels of design service, individually categorised as “Indicative design” and “full design” along with lump sum supply prices if required.

By using our innovative software “Scia CADS and Vertex Software we are able to provide full calculations and offer BIM compatible IFC file exchange.

CALEDAN Design Software

CALEDAN have invested in the latest design software utilising the latest European design copes for light gauge steel framing (BS EN 1993-1-3). Our software considers structural requirements, spans and wind loads in conjunction with the latest design codes to provide the optimum warranted design for complete peace of mind.

Indicative Design

Based on anticipated loadings we can calculate and provide the anticipated stud sections required. We will also take into account a selection of openings and provide standard opening and panel details.

The details we provide will facilitate the production of budget costs in order to assist in determining economic feasibility. Ultimately, and depending on the complexity of the project it may be decided by the project team that an actual full design is not required. If this is the case then construction may progress based on the indicative design. However, it must be considered that the basic indicative design approach requires full approval and warranty by the client/project engineer. CALEDAN accept absolutely no liability for any aspect of the basic indicative design or any of the consequences of such whatsoever. The indicative design service is provided free of charge.

In order to prepare the indicative design we require applicable items as follows:

  • Architects drawings preferably in DWG format.
  • Structural Engineers drawings preferably in DWG format.
  • Preferred system type i.e. Infill or Oversail.
  • Maximum live load deflection value. Site address and postcode to calculate wind loadings.

As Part of the Indicative design we will provide:

  • The stud section size and gauge required based on wind zone and vertical span.
  • A selection of opening designs to provide the most common solutions.
  • Typical Panel details, including typical jamb, cill and lintel constructions.
  • Basic fixing details.

Full Design

There is often a requirement, particularly on more complex stud and track infill type projects or Primaframe (stand-alone panel structures) for the the full design of SFS and the production of full working drawings and a 3D Model.

This would almost certainly be the case with Primaframe panels. The advantage of full design can be the ability to prepare more accurate bills and realistic costs from the outset. Furthermore, it is unlikely that progress will be disrupted on site due to a lack of design detailing. The advantage for the client / contractor in this situation is that our full design service is backed by a full Professional Indemnity. This provides complete piece of mind to the project design team, main contractor and client. All our designs are prepared by ISO9001 Accredited designers using the latest BS EN1993-1-3 for design of cold formed thin gauge sections and using the latest innovative BIM compatible software

Full Design Costs

For relatively simple projects full design costs are usually charged on a £’s per m2 basis gross over the surface area of the building envelope.

For more complex Infill type projects it may be that specific exclusions are made whilst the design of the primary structure and façade progresses. In these situations we will liaise directly with you to ensure the optimum solution. In order for us to be as efficient as possible and offer you value related advice it is advantageous for us to be involved in design at an early stage.

Cost Certainty - Lump Sum Design Service

If required and commonly in conjunction with the full design service we can offer a lump sum cost prediction based on the full design. This would obviously be subject to any evolutionary design changes but at least provides an element of cost certainty from the offset, (we can also provide a similar service based on an early indicative design but obviously we would not expect the same degree of cost certainty as would be applicable to a full design).

In order to prepare the full design we require applicable items as follows:

  • Architects drawings preferably in DWG format.
  • Structural Engineers drawings preferably in DWG format.
  • Preferred system type i.e. Stand Alone Panels, Infill or Oversail.
  • Maximum live load deflection value.
  • Site address and postcode to calculate wind loadings.
  • Door and window schedules detailing structural opening sizes.
  • The contact details Architect, Project Structural Engineer, Designers and any Sub-Contract designers involved with the project.

As part of the full design service we will provide (relative to SFS only):

  • Detailed working drawings to include elevations, models and sections for approval by the project Architect.
  • Structural calculations.
  • Stud, track and panel design.
  • Fixing design and specification.
  • Structural opening design.
  • Design of any necessary off-set cleats, brackets etc.
  • Attendance and SFS advice at project design team meetings.
  • Material scheduling based on the completed model.

What we don’t cover with our full design package:

  • There are instances where hot rolled steel is required. We will advise on these requirements but will not include as standard the specific design of such unless we are requested to do so and the design costs agreed.
  • Actual Setting out works on site.
  • Incomplete areas of design where we cannot ascertain precise requirements (we will confirm any applicable areas, (if any), and advise on any further design costs if applicable.
  • The cost of variation design changes are not covered within our initial costs. We will of course advise if these charges are applicable, if and when any variations take place.

THE CALEDAN FULL DESIGN SERVICE

It is important to note that there can be occasions with SFS framing when additional hot rolled steel may be required in order to support the façade or other items attached to the façade. The design of such hot rolled steel is not usually included within the full design service but can be provided if required.
